MEETINGS
Our Inaugural meeting was Saturday, November 14, 2020 at 1 pm HST (Hawaiian Standard Time). Peter Blau, BSI was the guest speaker. This was followed by a meeting on February 13, 2021 which featured Hal Glatzer who spoke on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Top 12 favorite stories from the Canon. Additional meetings took place on May 8, 2021 which was graced by Steve Mason, BSI who spoke on "Sherlock by the Numbers" and was followed by Sonia Fetherston, BSI who delivered a very unique and special presentation on "Hawaii's Sherlock Holmes." Our final 2021 meeting took place on November 13, 2021 which featured renowned Sherlockian, writer, and movie/TV director Nicholas Meyer, BSI. Nick's presentation was extremely well-received and covered several topics, philosophies, and his newly published Sherlock Holmes book, The Return of the Pharaoh. Our first 2022 Zoom meeting took place on February 12, 2022. The guest speaker was legal scholar Rich Krisciunas whose presentation was "Beppo is Not a Murderer." It examined the evidence deduced by Holmes in The Adventure of the Six Napoleans (SIXN) and Rich argued that the Crown would be unable to convict Beppo of killing Pietro Venucci. (NOTE: Video will be posted later this year following publication in The Sherlock Holmes Review.) Our May 14th meeting featured renowned film professor and Sherlockian Dr. Russell Merritt, BSI. Dr. Merritt's excellent presentation was entitled "On the Trail of Der Hund," an account of how a German silent Holmes film was found and restored against all odds. Our August 13, 2022 meeting featured Australian writer, novelist, playwright, and world class Sherlockian Cenarth Fox who spoke on the topic "Truth is Stranger than Fiction." Roger Johnson, Editor of The Sherlock Holmes Journal, who charmed us with stories of London's Sherlock Holmes Pub and its unique 221B Sitting Room in November 2022. In February 2023, Dr. Bob Katz gave a unique and personal presentation entitled "The Bile of Baker Street. In May 2023 our guest speaker was Scott Monty, co-host of IHOSE, who gave a memorable talk on "Sherlockian Networking: 19th Century Sensibilities in the 21st Century." Our August 2023 meeting featured Monica Schmidt, BSI, ASH who spoke on “The Seven-Per-Cent Evaluation (DSM-5 analysis of The Master’s cocaine use).” The November 2023 session featured Rebecca Romney, BSI who hosted an extended Q&A on "Collecting Things Sherlockian." Our first meeting in 2024 featured noted Sherlockian and publisher of the Baker Street Journal, Steven Doyle, BSI. He spoke on "Whiskey and Sodality: The Unique History and Power of the Sherlockian Scion Society." Our latest meeting was on May 11. 2024 and featured a memorable presentation by author Brian Patrick Duggan whose topic was "The Adventure of the Gigantic Hound or How Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Creation Inspired Early Horror Dog Films." Our most recent meeting took place August 10, 2024 at 1 pm Hawaiian Standard Time (HST) and featured college professor and author Dr. Mimi Okabe. Her topic was "An Introduction to the World of Sherlock Holmes in Japanese Anime and Manga." which was really well-received.
Our final 2024 meeting will take place on Saturday, November 9th at 1 pm Hawaiian Standard Time (HST). The featured guest speaker will be Adrian Braddy, editor of the wonderful new Sherlock Holmes Magazine. Adrian will be joining us from England via the magic of Zoom.
