ABOUT US/HISTORY
There is an interesting history surrounding scion societies in Hawaii. There have been three such groups with each founded roughly 20-30 years apart.
The first was “The Baker Street Irregulars of Honolulu.” It was created by Jerry Siegel who was no less than the co-creator (along with Joe Shuster) of the character of Superman. The BSI of Honolulu group was founded circa 1943 when Jerry was stationed in Hawaii with the U.S. Army (as a Stars & Stripes reporter). That scion group disappeared once World War II ended and Jerry returned home to the Mainland. He crossed the Reichenbach in 1996.
The second Sherlockian scion group, “The Andaman Islanders,” was founded by Marcia Chapman Eveland in 1975. Marcia, now a retired minister, lived on the island of Oahu which is home to Honolulu and numerous famous Hawaiian well known locales such as Pearl Harbor and Waikiki. Marcia was the driving force behind this group and, after she returned to the Mainland in 2002, it ultimately disbanded.
The third scion society, "The Shaka Sherlockians of Hawaii," was founded in 2020 by Dr. Joseph T. Page Jr., Sh.D. who currently serves as Gasogene. The inaugural meeting took place in November 2020 with Peter Blau, BSI as our first guest speaker. Formal status as a recognized BSI scion society was requested and approved in late 2020.
